2023Apr Training Reflections

Once again, strain injuries strike. This time at the left shoulder and left trap (upper). In retrospect, it's something that has built-up over time but AGAIN, I have ignored when it first started-- thinking that the recent reduced intensity hasn't been as damaging as last year's onset of elbow tendinitis.

Pain and aches usually accompanies post exercise and early in the morning.

12 Apr- Had a MU coaching session with Han followed by what's a short but rather intense PT session. It was like a memory trip back to army days where we both hailed from the same camp. But in the zealousness of that morning I reckon the shoulder was a tad further aggravated.

Started to slow down further after that and re-org to program the next few weeks with my new "fetish" One-Legged Training and also to use this "down-time" to focus more on abs.

The following week was getting a shoulder re-jigging session done by yet another brother-from-camp who is a certified sports therapist. He showed exactly where my problem was as the inflammation is now causing a visible imbalance of the traps. The good ol' advice of properly warming up now before each workout is finally knocking sense into me.

Timing was just right as my new running shoes arrived. A radical departure from my usual thin cushioned ones like Adizeroes, the kind I had been using to train my Chi running style for years...

Drop in resistance training volume was compensated with more running mileage this month. Finally able to get back to my 2021 Zone 2 numbers. Must say the shoes has been a great boost so far.

Lots of slow shoulder mobility exercises in 2H Apr...

Last day of the month and since tomorrow is a public holiday, thought I'll try our a few other things. Nordic Curls and Weighted Dragon Flags

Tempted to finish up some more pullups to catch last month's number, but... Nah. Listen to the body. enough done for today.

and a half hearted run in the evening after the mid day workout... Even though I wasn't primed for the run, numbers still wasn't too shabby. I just took it as pre burning some calories before the hot pot dinner for the night :)

Weight to BF% and SKM% "Analysis"

Took awhile to make sense of things while estimating the machine's tolerance/ accuracy and or possibilities of anomalies during weighing.

Mental "calculated" deduction says I should get back to ~72.5-73.5kg in the morning if my OMRON Karadascan HBF375, body composition monitor is anything worthwhile to go by...

Things to Do:

  • Nutritional profile remains
  • Keep current intensity and vol or up slightly more.
  • Add more cardio.
